Little Caleigh was gone, and so was family’s center

It was early in the season, but April 19 was a great beach day: deep blue skies and temperatures in the mid-60s. She had the day off from work, and Allison Hammond, who had practically grown up on Long Beach in Rockport, decided to take her two young daughters on an outing. Elizabeth, 4, and Caleigh, 2, had been to the beach dozens of times, and adored it. At 11:30 a.m., Hammond loaded them and her parents’ dog, Lucas, into her green RAV 4, arriving at the beach 10 minutes later.
