Former Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling left the Rhode Island Economic Development Corp. headquarters in Providence last week after discussing the finances of his troubled video game company, 38 Studios.

RE “Schilling company lays off all staff: Prospects called bleak for ailing R.I.-based video games maker” (Page A1, May 25): It appears likely that Curt Schilling’s video game business is down for the count and Rhode Island taxpayers along with it. The only real question remaining is whether anything can be done about it now. I hope that Rhode Island government officials will take a long hard look at this question to see who bears legal responsibility for what happened or for reimbursing the state of Rhode Island for its losses.

Along with these issues, I hope the Globe and other media outlets will continue to give this matter detailed and unrelenting coverage so that Schilling and the government officials who approved this fiasco of a business venture in the first place can receive the full measure of public scorn that they so richly deserve.
