Not everyone’s all-in on Suffolk casino plan

Patricia Payne, a bartender by trade, has it all figured out. As soon as applications are accepted, she is going to apply to mix cocktails at her neighborhood Caesars casino at Suffolk Downs, assuming it is built.

“There’s not too many opportunities here bartending; you have to go into the city, Payne said. “So it would be good money.”

Why is this East Boston/Revere Gambling Palace proposal being peddled as a neighborhood, get-the-wife-out-for-an-evening joint by the Boston Glob? Yes, residents of those communities, as well as Winthrop, Nahant and South Boston, are all concerned with Suffolk Downs' future. But it highly unlikely that the clientele sought by Loveman and the other gladhander would be Revere dogwalkers although a Revere lady bartender sure may get a job mixing lots of (free, maybe?) alcoholic concoctions to keep the slots and table gamblers relaxed and willing to part with their lunch and grocery monies. Can't one imagine a truly great growth in the Blue Line's passenger carriage? No room for folks headed to Maverick or Airport or Orient Heights, but wait untilt he Suffolk Downs stop: the trains will empty out fast. Yeah right... Let's see from that Loveman guy the numbers of prognosticated local clients versus visitors from Bath and St. Johnsbury who swarm off the buses. McGrory tried to profile the big wheels who want to gamble on the gambling, but he offered no facts-in-depth. Too bad... Lots of wispy clouds, but little or no sun to shine on the early starters...
