    ROBIN FOX > 50

    Information services director

INTERESTS Basketball, baseball, tennis [on TV]. When I’m ready for a nap, I watch golf.

WHAT HER EXES LOVED I’m a great listener, understanding, and willing to negotiate.

ROBIN [After work, I] rushed home, changed clothes, and off I went.

EDEN I took a cooling shower and put on nicer clothes than I generally wear to work.

ROBIN I was very nervous with a little calmness sprinkled in.

EDEN My friends were lauding me for my bravery. I mostly just felt curious.

ROBIN She had the “I’m a single lesbian” look. I knew [she was my date] the moment she walked in the door. I’m not usually attracted to blond women. This got me worried.

EDEN I found out she doesn’t drink. I was probing for interest in food and wine since they are a big part of my life. She’s also not a tremendously adventuresome eater.

    > LOVE GAME?

ROBIN I ordered the bluefish, which was fantastic. EDEN They brought us an amuse-bouche of beet soup, which was yummy. It seemed a little outside the box for Robin, though.

ROBIN It was hard for me to hear my date due to the acoustics in the restaurant.

She is very knowledgeable about wines and alcohol, rides a scooter, and is a practicing Buddhist.

EDEN We’re both Red Sox fans. Earlier in the day, I had been offered two prime dugout seats to that night’s game, which of course I turned down because of the date. I did whine a little.

EDEN I think we would have had a better time cheering on the Sox together than trying to find common ground across a table in a restaurant.

ROBIN Once I realized I could be friends with her and didn’t worry about the dating aspect, I relaxed.

EDEN I felt comfortable all along, just not as engaged as I would have liked.

ROBIN The one deal breaker is that she enjoys drinking and works at a store that sells alcohol.

    EDEN I can’t envision dating a [nondrinker].

ROBIN I just didn’t feel the spark. She’s an attractive woman, just not my type.

ROBIN I did walk her to her scooter to check it out. We talked about being friends on Facebook and possibly going to a Sox game together.

    EDEN We hugged goodbye.

    EDEN B

    ROBIN As friends only.

    EDEN No.
