Critic’s corner: What’s on TV tonight

Toby Melville/Reuters/File

The Batmobile  8 p.m., Channel 56

Why is the CW airing a half-hour special on the history of the Batmobile? Yeah, the TV channel and the movie studio releasing “The Dark Knight Rises” are corporate lovahs making sin-ergy. OK, they’re not lovers, but they are corporate cousins making synergy. The docu-ette, which also aired at Comic-Con last week, looks at how Batman’s weapon on wheels has evolved over the years. There are interviews with Christian Bale, Christopher Nolan, Tim Burton, and Adam West.

Birders: The Central Park Effect  9 p.m., HBO

This hourlong documentary looks at the birds who hang out in New York's patch o’ green — and the other set of NYC birds, the ones with binoculars who build their lives around migration patterns. It sounds sweet, and pretty, too, with lots of close-ups of the many species, including herons, hawks, and owls. Among the obsessive birders: author Jonathan Franzen.
