Blues is an acknowledged influence on hip-hop, but jazz is seldom discussed in that context. As part of Berklee College of Music’s Summer in the City series, this weekend’s Jazz at the Fort concert will make that connection more apparent. Presented by Revive Music Group, Hip Hop 1942 will feature ensembles performing a jazz composition and then demonstrating how it was used in a hip-hop song.
“Basically we haven’t really seen a lot of concerts that bridge the gap between jazz standards that were in fact sampled by prominent producers in hip-hop,” says Meghan Stabile, founder and president of Revive Music Group and a Berklee alum. “We wanted to help educate audiences about how important jazz was to hip-hop.”
