Lowell police, the FBI, and several police departments worked together Tuesday night in a prostitution sweep that led to the arrest of 18 suspects, authorities said Thursday. The operation was conducted on Middlesex, Westford, and Gorham streets in Lowell from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. with the FBI, Massachusetts State Police, and the Methuen and Lawrence police departments, Lowell Police Superintendent Kenneth Lavallee said. Officers targeted both customers and prostitutes in the sweep, arresting four men and four women on solicitation charges, eight suspects on charges of sexual conduct for a fee, and two on charges of common night walking. The suspects range in age from 18 to 69 years old.
