BRAINTREE — For someone with more than 5,000 followers on Twitter, Cardinal Sean P. O’Malley, the Roman Catholic archbishop of Boston, has been a rather tepid tweeter.
His aides tweet his weekly blog entries, but aside from his 2011 trip to World Youth Day in Madrid, when he was especially focused on engaging youth, @CardinalSean has been a quiet man in the twittersphere. One person who tried to get into a direct conversation with him last July about various church policies did not get much satisfaction.

What is this false hype about Cardinal O'Malley blogging and tweeting? He does neither. His staff uses his name to spread propaganda. The cardinal is not communicating with his flock. He is allowing his name to be used for advertising. He talks AT "young Catholics," but he can't talk with them. You can't blog and tweet effectively if you don't listen and have nothing to say or share. And, by the way, a majority of Catholics are not "young" and feel neglected by the diocese's preference towards youth. What does he have to say to parents? I've been waiting to hear for 9 years.
The headline in the print edition today reads "O'Malley set to ramp up twittersphere presence" It is nice to see that the Globe got around to showing the proper respect when posting the online version by adding his right and proper title of "Cardinal". C'mon Globe....tighten it up.
