Two Weston middle school students have been disciplined after pouring liquid used to clean whiteboards into their teacher’s water bottle, school officials said. Cheryl Maloney, superintendent of schools, said the teacher did not drink from the water bottle. “It was a poor choice made by a couple of kids,” Maloney said. “Fortunately, the teacher was not harmed.” Maloney said the incident had been investigated by school officials. She would not comment on the type of discipline the students received. “They had no issues or disagreements with the teacher; it was just a dumb decision,” she said.

It's a criminal act, not just a "dumb decision". They should be charged. If this happened in a poor school district, this would be a police matter, not an internal school discipline problem.
This outcome was reasonable for the kids from Weston but if this exact same incident had occurred in Suffolk County the kids would have been arrested and charged with a crime - probably something like attempted murder.
scleung..My thoughts exactly. This is an assault and should be treated as such, not as a harmless prank.
