Patriots safety Aqib Talib ‘excited to help’

FOXBOROUGH -- Cornerback Aqib Talib, acquired Nov. 1 in a trade deadline deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in exchange for a 2013 fourth-round draft pick, met with the local media for the first time Thursday at Gillette Stadium and expressed hope of putting his checkered past behind him.

“I just want to come in and learn as quick as possible and work hard and see what I can do to help the team,’’ Talib said, smiling broadly as he stood in front of his locker.

Lets all hope he can live up to expectations and help this secondary. They certainly are going to need it if they are to have what the organization would consider a succesful season. Why they thought they could get away with this under performing secondary is beyond me. Other than they somewhat arrogantly thought that the offense could make up for it. Which means they expected Brady to be able to throw for 4,5 or even six TDs per game. Or that Ridley, Woodhead, Welker, Edleman etc. would be able to make up for it. Whatever they thought, they are obviously changing that thinking with the pickup of Talib. Lets hope he has what it takes.
