N.H. duo made stops in N.Y., N.J.

PLAISTOW, N.H. — Three-year-old James Nicholson was recovering Wednesday at Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth, seeking to regain sight and brain function that authorities say he lost in a gruesome beating at the hands of his mother’s boyfriend earlier this month, shortly before the couple went on the lam.

Also on Wednesday, after a massive hunt, drawing on hundreds of tips and a web of law enforcement in multiple states, Orlando police arrested the couple amid the pageantry of the Universal Studios theme park, authorities announced Thursday.

I hope this child has a speedy and full recovery and is adopted into a family that wants and loves him, and can provide for his needs. I hope the "mother" loses all parental rights and that no one suggests that she should have any further claim on this child simply because she is the "mother". And finally, I hope the "mother" and her boyfriend rot in jail for a very long time. As for the paternal grandmother - I think she waived her rights to any "grandmotherly" relationship with the child by not calling the police when she knew (or should have known) this child was endangered.
