Cody Ross signs with Arizona

Cody Ross hit 22 home runs and drove in 81 runs for the Red Sox in 2012.

Cody Ross has finally gotten his desired three-year contract.

The fan-favorite outfielder and one of the few bright sports for the 2012 Red Sox is headed to the Arizona Diamondbacks with a 3-year, $26 million contract, according the player’s new team.

“Could not be happier to be in the [Diamondbacks] family!” Ross said via Twitter. “Truly blessed! God is good!”

Ross got $3 million from Boston last season.

“[The Red Sox] were interested in retaining Ross earlier in offseason, but at two years,” Red Sox beat writer Pete Abraham said on Twitter. “He was holding out for three and got it from Arizona.”

The Arizona deal also includes a club option for 2016.

Ross, the nine-year MLB veteran who signed with Boston after a two-year stint with San Francisco, hit 22 home runs for third on the Red Sox behind Jarrod Saltalamacchia (25) and David Ortiz (23) while driving in 81 runs for second on the team after Adrian Gonzalez (86). Ross had a batting average of .267 in 2012.

During the offseason, the 31-year-old Ross lives in Scottsdale, Ariz.
