The Red Sox and Pirates have agreed to a trade that will send closer Joel Hanrahan to Boston in exchange for Jerry Sands and Stolmy Pimentel, according to ESPN.com. CBS Sports is reporting that the Pirates will get two additional players that have not been itentified. Globe national baseball writer Nick Cafardo had previously reported that a deal was close.
Hanrahan, 31, makes sense for the Red Sox because questions linger over closer Andrew Bailey, who missed most of last season with a thumb injury and had a 7.04 ERA in 19 appearances when he returned.
