Leaders in party support Markey

Top members of the Democratic establishment on Friday threw their weight behind the Senate candidacy of US Representative Edward Markey in what appeared to be a coordinated effort by party leaders to close ranks behind the congressman and avoid a divisive primary.

Senator John Kerry, President Obama’s nominee for secretary of state, along with Victoria Reggie Kennedy, the widow of the late Senator Edward M. Kennedy, and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee all issued statements of support for Markey.

Ed Markey? The emptiest suit of them all? Anyone who's been in Congress for 37 years should be thinking about retirement, not about moving from the House to the Senate. In fact, Ed should have retired about - oh - 36 years ago.

The same two party lemmings have run the course in this thread, disliking everything, no matter what... Typical Demohack "discipline". . . . Enver Hoxha used to practice that with the guys that were building his dugouts around the countryside. . .

One trough to another

Kerry only endorses Kerry. Nobody else is good enough.

I thought Vicki headed up a non partisan group. And he she is supporting another Democrat. As if her endorsement means anything.

Yeah, isn't her job pretty much to siphon money from taxpayers to pay for a shrine to her husband?

Oh, and here's the connection. This is regarding funds for the Kennedy Institute shrine to Ted ...

"In the 2009 federal budget, $5,813,000 was appropriated to the project through the Labor Department and Department of Health & Human Services spending bill. In the 2010 budget, $13,600,000 was funneled through the from the Department of Labor and the Department of Health and Human Services and another $18,900,000 through the Defense Department spending bill.

In April of last year, Massachusetts Democratic Sen. John Kerry and Massachusetts Democratic Rep. Edward Markey attempted to insert another $8 million more in the now defunct Omnibus bill."

Oh lawdie... here we goes again.... Demohacks herding together to make sure there is no opposition for the lunkhead the state machine wants running... Markey is a left-enough hack to please the Patrick wing of the machine. . . . But hey, Markey is nothing but another old white guy . . . How come Nikki Tsongas ain't filling the bill? The gang turned her out... figgering she ain't as appealing as Granny Warren who has the Hahvuds behind her. . . Well let's see if a dimwit loudmouth like Markey can convince everybody in Taxashoosetts that he needs a boot up the stairs to the Senate. . . Maybe Capuano and Lynch will make up a primary run. . . Here's hoping. . .

"Demohacks"! and "Taxashoosetts" again!  Dang!  Where in the world do you come up with these golden phrases? Bravo! Brilliant!

It is amazing the bluest of states brings out the rightwingers in blog posts. It happens in local papers as well. The bluest of districts has the meanest of right wing extremist posters who cannot put together a grammatically concise sentence if their lives depended on it!

"The unusual attempt to clear the field for Markey reflects the Democratic leaders’ eagerness to avoid a primary battle that would drain resources and potentially create bitterness within the party." What's UNUSUAL about it? This is what the Globe WANTS. ---The Obama administration is picking the candidate, just like it picked Elizabeth Warren.--Also Ed Markey's favorite "Job killer" and "Global Warming" eliminator, EPA administrator Lisa Jackson, is suddenly stepping down after an investigation into her secondary e-mail account started. What will Ed do now?

Having heard him speak in a public forum/debate - he will make an interesting candidate. No one has told him to shut up for 37 years - he loves to hear himself speak.

and I LOVE to listen to him!

That's an example of having nothing to complain about, so you make some weak, useless comment and look like a fool.

I am not interested in who Victoria Reggie Kennedy supports.   Why is her endorsement reported?

Replies

Because she considered running and was Teddy's wife but Markey is unbeatable for his credentials, his superior experience decades in the House and his views are of the 99%. He is for most of us. Vicky did not have the experience although I met her and thought she was a lovely person and knowledgeable. We need expert political statecraft and no one other than Markey has that as much as he does. Heck he beats even ones who do have experience in the Senate. Markey has more. I love the guy! Elizabeth Warren and Ed Markey. NO wonder I am SO proud of the state of Massachusetts. Mass has everything a person who values intellect, academic excellence and humanitarian thought would want.

You ask about Vicky? The in crowd in Massachusetts literally salivates over anything Kennedy.

It WILL be Markey and he WILL win. Scott Brown should be electorally CRUSHED once and for all. No one is as good a choice as Markey. No one is going to be all things to all people. He's great on most of the issues that count especially fiscal, energy, anti nuke and issues of war and peace, climate change, Sup. Ct. etc. No one is 100% but for most of us who either are Dems, progressives, Independents or those or are just plain smart, he is darn close to perfect. We are dealt a GREAT hand and Markey is aces!

Replies

Hey rosen, what's the diff between a Dem and a progreessive?  We all know the diff between Dems and smart... As for Markey the Mouth being perfect, you obviously have not lived in his district in the apst 30-plus years. . . One ace is beaten by two deuces, ya know. . .

"Markey the Mouth"!  Wow- that's right out of Guys And Dolls, isn't it? What will you come out with next?!

Oh goodie... as the writer at the Glob's press rival in town put it, the state Demomob is trying to scurry to avoid a 'bloody' primary, pleasing the helk out of nrosen and all the party lemons. . . er... ah.. lemmings. . . And not a dame in the mob . . . oh heck, Granny is enough of the Emily gang set anyway... And there is Granny in a Glob photo, posing pretty with Ready Eddy, the Mouth, Markey... The guy who visits Massachusetts about once every four or five months. . . And the Glob uppercrusters, the bosses, are all agog at the idea of Markey running with no opposition within the party... The bosses know more than the tank and rile anyway, let them pick the party's next senate seat loafer. . . We can be pretty well assured of one thing... Ready Eddy sure won't be hopping a plane to Ishkabumble or Peking or Tallinin, like Liveshot Kerry has had a habit of doing . . . Ready Eddy will be there mouthing all the correct Demohack lines on electronics stuff and the ecology, etc.... And the Glob is to be sure its photo stockroom is ready with lots of varied photos of Ready Eddy and ... well, guess who. . . Will Barry the O cast an endorsement to Eddy, ya think?

The content of this post is sadly opaque and indecipherable. The only one who knows what in the world was said is the poster and even THEN one wonders the state of mental acuity. Grammatical acuity... FORGET IT!

Where's E.G. Robinson when you need him?

Party leaders getting together to choose a candidate and removing the rest of thepartyaffiliation from the debate is why many states adopted open primaries. I guess the Democrats feel this is not convenient and may be harmful by letting the people choose.

Hey, Kim Jong-Il chose Kim Jong-un as the next leader, no difference here, don't worry.

Is there going to be a Republican primary to select at candidate?

You can bet your bippy that won't happen. So what's your holier-than-thou complaint?

Didn't the Republicans arbitrarily remove duly-elected Ron Paul delegates from their convention delegation?

Edward Markey is a good candidate having served in office for years and proved himself, unlike Dem fav Chief Spreading Bull Warren. I can't understand how Vickie Kennedy could be considered for Senator either.

Markey has been my Congressman since I moved into his district in 1984. He seems to be an honest and decent man. I've never heard anyone say anything negative about him, but I've heard plenty of people praising his constituent services.

There's one legitimate complaint the right-wing should have. He is definitely liberal.

Anything else they've screamed and yelled about here is invalid BS.

I wonder if Ed could get a job in the private sector.  Unfortunately, we'll probably never find out.
