Mass. GOP candidate won't limit outside groups

BOSTON (AP) — A Republican candidate for the US Senate says he has no interest in signing a pledge to discourage outside groups from running ads in the upcoming special election in Massachusetts.

State Rep. Daniel Winslow said Thursday his campaign would welcome ‘‘positive’’ help from any outside group.

U.S. Reps Edward Markey and Stephen Lynch — who are running for the Democratic nomination for the seat formerly held by John Kerry — agreed to a so-called ‘‘people’s pledge’’ on Wednesday, similar to one that kept most outside money out of last year’s U.S. Senate race between Democrat Elizabeth Warren and Republican Scott Brown.

In a statement, Winslow said Markey and Lynch already have plenty of money in their own campaign coffers.

Massachusetts Democratic Party head John Walsh accused Winslow of giving in to the ‘‘far right’’ of his party.
