PIERRE, S.D. — South Dakota Governor Dennis Daugaard signed a bill Friday allowing the state’s school districts to arm teachers and other personnel with guns.
Supporters say the armed workers could help prevent tragedies such as December’s shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., in which 20 students and six teachers died.

That has to be negotiated by School Committees and Teacher Unions. No uncompensated gun training time for teachers... No way Hosay. . . . Oh yeah, the Bobby the D Teachers' Gun Act will require inclusion of an automatic permit to carry concealed weapons, so every teacher in a classroom would not look like the old photo of Billy the Kid. Why arm the teachers when we can arm the kids. Thirty armed kids in a class room have a much better chance of taking down a lunatic than one teacher. It's just playing the odds!
Remember the phrase "going postal", which referred to US Postal Service workers losing it and shooting up their colleagues and neighbors? Well, arming teachers and school personnel will no doubt increase a kind of "going academic" epidemic, when deranged teachers turn their state-issued guns on their students, colleagues, and neighbors. What's that you say, teachers aren't under any significant stress, what with summers off and all those vacation weeks during the school year? I guess we'll see. South Dakota, while not exactly representative of the nation's public shool system in general, will be the new lab experiment for this situation.
