2 seriously injured in South Boston fire

A man and woman were seriously injured in a fire at a South Boston three-decker Saturday night, a Boston Fire Department spokesman said.

The Fire Department and emergency medical personnel responded to 265 E Street just after 9 p.m. for a one-alarm fire on the second floor of the building, spokesman Steve MacDonald said. A man and a woman who lived in the building were treated on scene and transported to Boston hospitals in serious condition, MacDonald said.

One firefighter was transported to Tufts Medical Center for a laceration on his body, MacDonald said.

Fire inspectors estimate the damage to the building at $100,000. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
