Since the US Supreme Court issued its decisions on the federal Defense of Marriage Act and California's Proposition 8 in June 2013, several states' constitutional bans on same-sex marriage have been struck down as unconstitutional. Most of those rulings have been put on hold as the cases go through the appeals process.
