The United States has ascended in the world FIFA rankings since the start of 2013, from a low of 33d in March 2013 to 13th in recent months. Germany and Portugal (two teams the US will face in Brazil) have been consistently ranked in the top 10, while opening foe Ghana has dropped from a high of 19th to 38th.
