A car crash on Route 9 in Framingham on an August night in 2008 sent both drivers to the hospital. A doctor called police to tell them that one of those drivers was "highly intoxicated," a fact she testified to in court. Police said the man, who rear-ended the other vehicle, appeared intoxicated. At trial in July 2010, his defense attorney said “it was simply an accident" — that he was distracted when a cigarette fell into his lap. Without comment, Judge Paul F. Healy Jr. asked the clerk to read his verdict. Not guilty.
