MY LIFE WITHOUT ME ★★ ½

(Max on Comcast) A whimsical drama about terminal cancer - and if that sets your teeth on edge, so will parts of the movie. Canadian actress Sarah Polley is the young wife and mother who, told she has two months to live, keeps the news to herself and sets about cleaning house. It’s a weird hybrid of magic realism and indie-film rawness, but for every acting-class monologue there’s a moment of quiet grace. (R; runs through Jan. 12) TY BURR

HOUSESITTER ★★★

(HBO on Comcast) Not the most original of screwball comedies, but a sweet, user-friendly one, with ingratiating performances by Goldie Hawn, as a one-night stand who moves in on an architect, and Steve Martin, as the architect, who can’t keep up with her whoppers - especially the one that they’re married. (PG; runs through Jan. 9)

SCROOGED ★★★ ½

(Comcast Movie Collections: Holiday Films) Forget the dumb title. This is a smart, heartfelt reworking of the Dickens classic for the TV generation. In giving us Bill Murray’s modern Scrooge as a ruthless careeraholic TV executive who rediscovers the buried hippie in him, Hollywood gives us a rarity - a Christmas movie with Christmas spirit. (PG-13; runs through Jan. 4)
