Bosstones fired up at annual Hometown Throwdown

Sports and music fanaticism are powerful forces in Boston, and occasionally they merge. It happened again Wednesday at the House of Blues during opening night of the “Mighty Mighty Bosstones 14th Hometown Throwdown.’’ Yet it wasn’t a Patriot, Bruin, Celtic, or Sox player that the Bosstones welcomed on stage, but rather candlepin bowler Paul Berger, whose televised high score is immortalized in “The Ballad of Candlepin Paul.’’ It was pretty clear that the Bosstones remain the charmingly offbeat relations among Boston’s musical family.
