Megan Hilty is a potential ‘Smash’ hit

The new NBC musical drama “Smash’’ has a lot of big personalities and voices vying for attention, including Anjelica Huston, Debra Messing, and former “American Idol’’ runner-up Katharine McPhee. But one person is poised to pull focus when the show premieres at 10 p.m. on Feb. 6. Broadway vet Hilty shines onscreen as a talented, ambitious, and just a little desperate Ivy Lynn, the woman vying with McPhee’s character for the title role of Marilyn Monore in a new Broadway musical.
