Megan Hilty is a potential ‘Smash’ hit

The new NBC musical drama “Smash’’ has a lot of big personalities and voices vying for attention, including Anjelica Huston, Debra Messing, and former “American Idol’’ runner-up Katharine McPhee. But one person is poised to pull focus when the show premieres at 10 p.m. on Feb. 6. Broadway vet Megan Hilty shines onscreen as the talented, ambitious, and just a little desperate Ivy Lynn, the woman vying with McPhee’s character for the title role of Marilyn Monroe in a new Broadway musical. Whether the Washington native gets the part on the show remains to be seen. But having already logged time onstage as Doralee Rhodes in the adaptation of “9 to 5’’ (that’s the Dolly Parton part) and Glinda the Good Witch in “Wicked,’’ Hilty’s got the goods to be a smash either way.
