Laura Cortese brings her pluck to Acoustic Project

Her projects continue to break barriers of fiddle music

As part of an inventive generation of string players inspired by bluegrass and traditional Celtic fiddle styles, Laura Cortese wanted to make a bold statement about the contemporary sensibility animating her music. “Sometimes people have this rural caricature of this music,’’ says Cortese, 31, who performs Tuesday at Club Passim in Cambridge with her Acoustic Project string quartet. “I wanted to create a modern fiddle pinup girl, complete with tattoo. . . It’s a sassier, more risqué side of the music.’’
