Neal McDonough makes for a good bad guy

Neal McDonough is having a good time playing bad guy Robert Quarles on the FX drama “Justified.’’ (The new season premiered last night.) The Boston-bred actor with the piercing blue eyes says the mobster who’s menacing Timothy Olyphant’s US Marshal Raylan Givens is actually a lot of fun. “I can be as entertaining and crazy as I want,’’ he said during a press event in Pasadena, Calif., the other day. The series reunites McDonough (inset) with his old “Boomtown’’ buddies Mykelti Williamson and creator Graham Yost. The only thing missing is his “Boomtown’’ costar Donnie Wahlberg. “There are few things in life I enjoy more than working opposite Donnie Wahlberg,’’ he said. As much fun as he’s having, McDonough said he’d like his next TV series to shoot in Boston, near his family, and he has an idea that includes Williamson. “He’s harbor patrol and I’m a Boston city cop who’s out-of-his-mind nuts,’’ said McDonough. When we pointed out that it could be a chilly shoot, he laughed. “It’s perfect, freeze your face off, shoot back in Boston, and before you know it we’re at Sonsie having cocktails.’’ FX, are you listening?
