Martha Coakley has spent the past two years trying to restore her reputation, and recently spoke to the Globe about her regrets on the Senate race and her efforts to become the best attorney general in the country - a goal she says she has achieved through landmark lawsuits, settlements and investigations involving the mortgage crisis, spiralling energy and health care costs and public corruption.

"Saturday Night Live'' responded with a devastating parody in which President Obama called her "the single most incompetent candidate to seek public office in this nation's history.'' He added: "You deserved to lose, Martha. You stunk up the joint.'' what is the point of Bella English's article on Coakley? Why would a politician need to rise again if she was so good? No matter what she achieves it doesn't answer the question - how could she have messed up so badly. would you trust a politician to hold an important office who had no clue that she was oblivious to the people after 20 years in a public position? I'm also concerned about the public who didn't see her flaws for 20 years.
Martha certainly hasn't made any waves by going after all the corruption among her fellow Democrats in the State. She seems happy to leave that to the Boston Globe investigating and then FBI follow up. Someone should give Martha some shooting fish in a barrel lessons.
Coakley was a very good DA, she is a good, but very cautious AG...the law is her comfort zone. That's why AG's don't get elected US Senate or Governor...it puts them out of their comfort zone and into a political arena where they flounder and are overtaken by new found consultants and fundraisers. She lost far more than an election.
Hmmmm, my comment was removed? All I said was that Martha leaves any prosecution of fellow Democrats to the FBI, and finding corruption in Mass government should be very easy. She can focus on smaller stuff, but when the whole state government is corrupt it effects everybody.

"The thing I feel worst about is people's perception, and the media, that somehow I felt entitled to the seat" Is she kidding? she absolutely felt entitled. She thought the commonwealth was wasting money to even have a Senate race. The comment she made about not bothering to shake hands outside of Fenway Park was all I needed to hear. "What do THEY expect me to do; stand in the cold outside Fenway and shake hands?" They being us.
Coakley: "The banks got huge taxpayer relief, they have survived and are doing well,'' she told them. "We need to even this out and move forward. I firmly believe that addressing the foreclosure crisis is the single most important thing we can do to restore a healthy economy.'' Did Martha mention anything about lawbreaking above. I dont think so. Nothing is more dangerous to our liberty and to our society that a prosecutor who feels impelled to do good, as opposed to enforce our laws. Doing good and enforcing the laws are often two different things. It is pretty clear what Martha chooses to be interested in, just realize she is perverting her constitutional responsibilities and taking someone freedoms somewhere away. The whole mortgage lawsuit has been a tempest in a teapot, a publicity game with no illegalities done or claimed. Hopefully some judge will laugh the whole thing out of his/her court. AGs like Martha and Elliot Spitzer are dangerous and evil. Who protects us from them?
The infamous Fells Acres witchhunt will be associated with her forever. She wasn't honest enough to admit she made a serious mistake and is, at best, a tepid AG.
And also the Kenny Waters case
It was NEVER Ted K's seat, therefore not something the Democratic establishment could endow on a pre-ordained candidate. She also seemed to let a lot slide with banks before the 2008 crisis, for which she took no blame. Now she is chasing easy targets with the help of Attorneys General of other states. She just seems to add her name to the complaint and then watches the fines get assessed. The fines that go to state coffers and do not offer any relief to those damaged by the banks. I'm glad this fluff piece was in the same section as the comics. Otherwise I might have thought the author and editors were serious.
Numeral: "The fines that go to state coffers and do not offer any relief to those damaged by the banks. ..." I dont think that any damage to individuals was established in this suit, I don't think any individuals were named as plaintiffs, to the best of my knowledge. The improprieties claimed were stated without identifying individuals actually harmed by them. If ANYONE knows of one homeowner who lost a home, who was not hopelessly behind on their mortgage payments, or even the story of such a homeowner, let's hear about it! Martha is after the banks because..hey, they are evil so she can get them anyway she can...legalities be omitted.
Be careful: If you say anything bad about liberal Democrats, the Globe censors will remove your comment. Then, if you fight back, they'll re-post the comment months later and claim " moderator error ". Shame-Shame-Shame !
True, she ran a terrible campaign and deserved to lose. As AG she has done OK. I would toot her horn more if she addressed the blatant corruption on Beacon Hill and stop waiting for the Feds to step in.
