There have been years when the red carpet at the Academy Awards resembled a scene from “The Stepford Wives.’’ But last night broke from that tradition. There was no dominant theme, no color of the night, and definitely no shape that appeared over and over. Among the best dressed were Jessica Chastain, Michelle Williams, Gwyneth Paltrow, Octavia Spencer, Rooney Mara, and Rose Byrne.
