Magnus Carlsen of Norway, 21 years of age, and currently highest rated player in the world, appeared on CBS’ “60 minutes’’ on Sunday, February 19th in a program that was in many respects a summation of the status of chess in our time. This program supplied a worthy tribute to the game that has expanded notably in the last twenty years along with the information revolution and is now taught in many schools throughout the world.
