With ‘Ma Rainey,’ Huntington completes its August Wilson cycle

The cycle ends with its 10th August Wilson play, a distillation of the black experience

The late playwright August Wilson worked on six of his plays at the Huntington, beginning with “Joe Turner’s Come and Gone’’ in 1986, and the company has produced all of his plays except one. That changes Friday, when “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom’’ - Wilson’s first to be produced on Broadway - opens at the Boston University Theatre.
