Modern music, fed by many streams

If any turn-of-the-century composer cries out for thoughtful museum treatment, it is Claude Debussy (1862-1918). At Smith College Museum of Art, one can now happily find an exhibition called “Debussy’s Paris: Art, Music, & Sounds of the City,’’ in honor of the 150th anniversary of the composer’s birth, and in conjunction with a series of concerts presented by Smith’s music department. The show brings much pleasure, but as a musical event, its impact is slight.
