Critic’s corner

South Park 10 p.m., Comedy Central

It’s the 16th season of the little cutout cartoon that could, which has had a remarkable track record for cutting-edge comedy over its long, hilarious life. Even after the exhausting process of mounting the Tony Award-winning musical “The Book of Mormon,’’ creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone haven’t run out of stories for Stan, Kyle, Cartman, and the gang. Tonight’s opener finds a denizen of the mountain town suffering an accident that draws the attention of the TSA.

American Idol 8 p.m., Channel 25

Michael Becker/Fox/AP

Erika Van Pelt on "American Idol.”

It’s “songs from the year they were born’’ theme week for the top 12, so be prepared to hear lots of hits from the ’90s, as only four of the contestants - Heejun Han, Elise Testone, Erika Van Pelt, and Jermaine Jones - were born in the ’80s. My current favorites Van Pelt and Hollie Cavanagh were born in 1985 and 1993, respectively, and I’d love to hear the former sing “Would I Lie to You?’’ by Eurythmics and the latter tackle “Linger’’ by the Cranberries.

It’s “The Bachelorette’’ gone bad on this reality-show-themed episode.

CSI 10 p.m., Channel 4

It’s a social media nightmare when murder is trending. #bummer
