Critic’s corner

Community 8 p.m., Channel 7

Cult fan bases can be both a blessing and a curse. When this NBC comedy went on hiatus, fate uncertain, the faithful flock went into overdrive with worry and promotion on social media, testifying to the sitcom’s considerable charms. But the effect of all that proselytizing can turn off potential new viewers who feel like they’re too late to get on board. It’s not too late. There are few shows on network television right now that have such a well-crafted mix of silly yuks, acerbic observations, real heart, pop culture winks, and upended expectations. Plus, Jim Rash, who plays zany Dean Pelton, just won an Oscar for best adapted screenplay for “The Descendants.’’ Give it a shot.

If you missed the sneak peek of the pilot of this potentially intriguing new Kiefer Sutherland drama back in January, Fox is reairing it to help viewers become acquainted with the numbers-centric series before new episodes begin airing next week in what was the “Bones’’ timeslot. (Brennan and Booth fans should look for the dynamic duo on Mondays at 8 p.m. starting April 2.)
