Dancing With the Stars 8 p.m., Channel 5

The 14th season cha-cha-chas onto the tube tonight with 12 new “stars’’ vying for bragging rights and the mirror ball trophy. Those attempting to sashay their way to dance floor fame or ignominy include soul legend Gladys Knight (pictured), contemporary pop singer Gavin DeGraw, tennis hall of famer Martina Navratilova, Medford homegirl and entertainment show correspondent Maria Menounos, Sherri Shepherd of “The View’’ and “30 Rock,’’ former half-pint Melissa Gilbert, and Super Bowl-winning Green Bay Packers receiver Donald Driver. My money’s on former “Family Matters’’ actor Jaleel White. Something tells me Urkel may have some smooth moves.

Smash 10 p.m., Channel 7

Things are about to get even thornier for Ivy (Megan Hilty) when legendary singer-actress Bernadette Peters (above left, with Hilty) comes to visit as her attention-grabbing Broadway vet mom. But what’s bad for Ivy should be a treat for viewers who will get an earful when the two-time Tony winner - who played a brilliant Mama Rose in “Gypsy’’ on Broadway in 2003 - sings “Everything’s Coming Up Roses.’’

The Voice 8 p.m., Channel 7

The battles continue.

Murder is music to a resurfacing convict’s ears.

Hawaii Five-0 10 p.m., Channel 4

Ed Asner helps the gang celebrate their third-season pick-up by reprising a role he played on the original show over 30 years ago.
