How to channel your favorite female ‘Mad Men’ character

With “Mad Men’’ viewing parties on the horizon this weekend, we’re turning to the ladies of the era when thinking about what to wear for the big night. Want to channel your inner Joan? Try a ripe red lipstick. Or the future Mrs. Don Draper? Pick up a vintage-inspired floral shift dress that’s ready to stand the test of time. Relate most to Peggy? Read on and start prepping.

BETTY

Inspired by their original predecessors, the Estee Lauder “Mad Men’’ collection features a rosy cream blush and miniature-size pink-red lipstick in deluxe gold packaging that are sure to snag second glances. We picture the ex-Mrs. Draper keeping an elegant stash of these beauty beauties in her handbag for mid-day touchups.

As part of Banana Republic’s spring capsule collection, made in collaboration with “Mad Men’’ costume designer Janie Bryant, this pink taffeta party dress was designed with ice princess party hostess Betty in mind. Let’s hope she’ll have something to celebrate . . . or at least smile about this season?

One of our favorite “Mad Men’’ memories comes from the first season when a neighbor has threatened the Draper family’s wandering pooch. How does everyone’s favorite unhappy housewife respond? Why, by shooting a round of BBs at the neighbor’s beloved pigeons. What’s a more chic way to commemorate that moment than with a bullet-shaped decanter of luxe perfume? We think Betty (and her BBs) would approve.

PEGGY

Like your lips but better, this demure nude pink flatters a range of skin tones and comes in a sturdy plaid-clad packaging that recalls Ms. Olson.

Burberry Lip Cover in Tulip Pink, $30 at Burberry.com.

Who could forget Peggy Olson’s breakout Pond’s Cold Cream pitch? We later spent hours slathering on the classic product in front of a mirror. Not surprisingly, it still works like a charm.

Pond’s Cold Cream Cleanser, $8.49 at Walgreens store locations.

We predict Peggy will keep her inner-beatnik under wraps this season. But we’re also guessing her predictable office wardrobe will get a playful update in peppy hues that are as on-trend now as they were in the mid-’60s.

JOAN

Emulate Joanie’s enviable curves with this strategically cinched sheath dress.

Half-sleeve dress by Love Moschino, $395 at Isaay.com.

We can think of a dozen reasons why the men at Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce (and well, worldwide) are hypnotized when Joan walks into the room. Her full fluttering lashes are just one of them.

Full Drama Lashes by Sonia Kashuk, $4.99 at Target stores.

A retro red that is perfect for those adverse to the bold hue. Hydrating benefits from avocado oil and vitamin E make for a smooth application that keeps lips looking plump and luscious, rather than dry and dated.

By Terry Rouge Terrybly in Terrific Rouge, $49, Barneys.com and store locations.

MEGAN

Tall and willowy, Calvet took us by surprise when she was plucked by Don Draper out of a sea of bombshells. Her look is still coveted today.

Gabby dress by Ali Ro, $298 at Ali-Ro.com.

While it might be fun to “Don’’ a faux engagement ring at an upcoming viewing party, we think this bronze-plated brass “Oui’’ ring is a cheeky alternative.

Foreign Affirmation Ring by Eric et Lydie, $80 at Bhldn.com.

We wouldn’t be surprised if Calvet pulled this flirtatious creamy pale pink luxury lipstick from the French house of Dior from her handbag. Use a lip brush to precisely apply for a truly opaque lip that still looks fresh.

Rouge Dior lipstick in Corolle Pink, $32 at Nordstrom store locations.
