Robert Lepage explores Hans Christian Andersen’s life

Hans Christian Andersen and Robert Lepage might seem an unlikely match: one the 19th-century Dane famous for fairy tales like “The Ugly Duckling’’ and “The Princess and the Pea,’’ the other the iconic French Canadian actor-director-playwright whose recent stage spectacles include the Metropolitan Opera’s mammoth “Ring’’ cycle. But when the Danish government commissioned a work about Andersen, Lepage was its choice. The resulting multimedia solo show, “The Andersen Project,’’ comes to the Cutler Majestic Theatre Saturday through April 1, presented by ArtsEmerson.
