Marilyn Monroe doing a bench press, kicking a soccer ball, in mid-jump at a photographer’s studio, wrangling a horse on the set of “The Misfits.” These are some of the lesser-known images that make “Marilyn by Magnum” (Prestel) such a revelation. Magnum photographers Henri Cartier-Bresson, Inge Morath, and others captured the glamour and vulnerabilities of Monroe, now gone for 50 years.
