The sky, the light, and the water are painter Tom Curry’s holy trinity. The three are always at play in his series of paintings of Chatto Island, located off Maine’s Blue Hill Peninsula. “Island: Paintings by Tom Curry” (Down East) presents Chatto in all seasons and types of weather, bringing a fresh look to a familiar presence. The book also features essays by nature writer Terry Tempest Williams, art critic Carl Little, and Curry. “These paintings aren’t so much landscapes as they are portraits,” Curry writes. “They are also meditations on the dance between immutability and flux.”
