Trust Us With Your Life 9 and 9:30 p.m., Channel 5
It’s a special kind of person who likes these “Whose Line Is It Anyway?”-type improv shows — you know who you are. An hour of this stuff goes a long way; watching over-eager comics go scriptless can make you yearn for those rambling “Saturday Night Live” sketches. But I mention the show because the second guest tonight is Ricky Gervais, one of my favorites. Let’s see how the cast acts out moments from Gervais’s life, and if they don’t do his 2011 Golden Globes appearance then they’re chicken. Pictured: host Fred Willard and Gervais.
NY Med 10 p.m., Channel 5
This docu-series did nicely in the ratings last week. What makes it fascinating viewing is that the stakes are generally high — life and death, most of the time. That gives the drama an extra bolt of power. Tonight, for example, a guy with liver disease hopes to make his daughter’s wedding. Also, there’s something fresh about the way the makers of “NY Med” don't automatically turn everyone into characters and tie up plots too neatly, reality-TV style.
Shark Wranglers 10 p.m., History Channel
They sound itchy and smelly.
Craft Wars 10 p.m., TLC
Tonight: Popsicle-stick duels.
I Hate My Kitchen 10:30 p.m., DIY
Otherwise I would so definitely cook.
