Mr. Shakespeare might not recognize his popular play “The Tempest” because in Shakespeare & Company’s production, Olympia Dukakis plays Prospera, the action is set in the ’40s on a Mediterranean island. Emerald Necklace home base Soak up the surroundings where Frederick Law Olmsted and his family lived in the 1880s at the Frederick Law Olmsted National Historic Site. On the first floor of the farmhouse, reproduction wall finishes are based on original scraps found behind bookcases, in doorways, and inside a humidifier. Outside, the landscape designed by Olmsted and his stepson, John Charles Olmsted, features a Canadian Hemlock planted by Olmsted in 1883. Biennial and bizarre There’s art and there’s “Bizarre Artist Happenings.” They’re the same, just different. The East Boston-based conceptual artist group known as the Biennial Project presents this multimedia art party with a cast of “loonies, ne’er-do-wells, circus freaks, debutantes, aging hippies, pill-popping moms, gender rebels, lumberjacks, dreadlocked “trustifarians,” and more. A moving experience The Franklin Park Zoo has a new 10,000-square-foot resident that requires no food. It’s a playground with a climbing structure in peacock colors and a tube slide resembling a giraffe. Check it out at “Moves at the Zoo” where there is music, dance, and performances by Boston-based companies.
