Critic’s corner: What’s on TV tonight

George Kraychyk

Copper Sunday at 10 p.m., BBC America

OK, I have said in these pages that “Copper” is a show to watch. That was before I’d seen episodes 3 and 4, which were just awful. It looked as if all the money and care the producers put into the opening of the series had disappeared. The dialogue became embarrassingly cliched, and the guest actors were horrible. I sat cringing — in a bad way, not in a “Curb Your Enthusiasm” way — over how positive I had been. So, after all, never mind.

Saturday Night Live Saturday at 11:30 p.m., Channel 7

The show returns for season 38 without Kristin Wiig and Andy Samberg, two major players. Let’s see if any of the new guys — Aidy Bryant, Tim Robinson, and Cecily Strong — can help fill the gap. Actually, let’s see if they even get significant screen time, a problem for “SNL” newcomers. Tonight’s host is “Family Guy” creator and “Ted” writer-director Seth MacFarlane (above), with musical guest Frank Ocean. By the way, Jason Sudeikis is returning, at least until January.
