The 64th Primetime Emmy Awards 8 p.m., Channel 5

It was a good year for TV with oodles of deserving shows and actors vying for the biggest prizes including “Mad Men,” “Breaking Bad,” “Homeland,” “Downton Abbey,” “Boardwalk Empire,” and “Game of Thrones.” And that’s just the outstanding drama category. You might note that those are all PBS, basic, and pay cable shows. Time for the broadcast nets to step up. Speaking of which, ABC’s own Jimmy Kimmel — who will soon go from 12:05 a.m. to 11:35 p.m. to compete with the big dogs — will handle hosting duties. We have faith that Kimmel will keep the trains running on time while keeping attendees and viewers in stitches snarking on his TV brethren.

Emmys Red Carpet Live 7 p.m., Channel 5

“Bachelor” drama king Chris Harrison, “Good Morning America” cohorts Josh Elliott and Lara Spencer, and “What Not to Wear” fashion guru Clinton Kelly chat up TV’s best and brightest as they sashay down the crimson shag toward the Nokia Theatre to hand out or collect the night’s most coveted accessory: an Emmy.

Broadway or Bust 8 p.m., Channel 2

And the “Jimmy” goes to...

Oprah’s Lifeclass 9 p.m., OWN

Winfrey puts the “O” in hOnesty with Iyanla.

Treme 10 p.m., HBO

LaDonna wants to outlaw her in-laws.
