Rascals and scoundrels

There are two celebrations at Wednesday’s Aardvark Jazz Orchestra show. One is for “Evocations,” the latest CD from Mark Harvey’s ensemble; the other is the orchestra’s 40th anniversary. The record features original songs and arrangements by music director and trumpeter Harvey, including “Rascals and Scoundrels.”

What a Spectacle During July and August, the Boston Parks and Recreation Department sponsored free Pics in the Parks Workshops. From Mali to Paris Before her music career, Fatoumata Diawara worked in film and theater. Their loss was music’s gain for the Mali-raised, Paris-based singer whose subjects are love, politics, and empowerment. The contemporary folk singer composed, arranged, and handled the vocals on her debut release, “Fatou.”
