A pilot may be promising, but that doesn’t mean the show is going to follow through on that promise. “Nashville,” though, has stayed good so far. It’s a musical soap opera, but there are no straight-up villains. Every dislikable character, notably Hayden Panettiere’s Juliette (pictured) and Powers Boothe’s Lamar, have been given sympathetic back stories. And Eric Close’s gentle Teddy is starting to look a bit like a villain, as we learn about his dark secrets. By the way, Sam Palladio, who plays Gunnar, is British, and Clare Bowen, who plays Scarlett, is Australian. Nice accent work by both.
