Critic’s Corner: What’s on TV this weekend

The Toyman Killer
The Toyman Killer

The Toyman Killer Saturday, 10 p.m., Lifetime

Is a convict faking multiple personality disorder to avoid the death penalty? Lifetime continues its longstanding tradition of schlocky thrillers perfect for snowy Sunday afternoons, so DVR it now to watch it next winter. While this one isn’t up to its usual B-list standards in terms of casting, it does feature lovely Canadian actress Sarah Carter. She has done a lot of episodic TV work on shows like “Dirty Sexy Money” and “CSI,” but slavish Judd Apatow fans may remember her appearance on the late, great, canceled-too-soon “Undeclared”; she’s also had costarring roles on the short-lived Fox drama “Shark” with James Woods and the current TNT alien invasion series “Falling Skies.”

That Metal Show Saturday, 11 p.m., VH1 Classic

Will tonight be the night? With Buck Dharma, guitarist for Blue Oyster Cult, as the guest on this lovably low-rent celebration of all things hard rock and heavy metal, will we learn if the amount of cowbell was just right on “Don’t Fear the Reaper” or if, in fact, more would’ve been better?
