TT THE BEAR’S 40TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION
T.T. the Bear’s Place, 10 Brookline St., Cambridge. Sunday – Saturday , doors at 8:30 p.m., 8 p.m. on Sat. 18+. Tickets: $10/night. 617 492-0082, www.ttthebears.com
The deal: Whoever said you can’t be cool once you’re over the hill had obviously never been to a rock show at T.T. the Bear’s. The coolest 40-year old in the city, Boston’s punk-rock gem, T.T.’s, is throwing a week-long birthday bash presented by WZLX’s local rock radio program, Boston Emissions, that features a variety of acts from hometown heroes of the ’80s and ’90s, to buzzed-about bands just emerging on the scene.
The music: “We play rock music, plain and simple,” says Nick Grieco, guitarist for the Field Effect, who will play Friday night with 2000s favorites, the Sheila Devine. “It’s all about high energy and passion.” Booking agent Richard Bouchard and owner Bonney Bouley have curated the week’s gigs to be an exhibition of Boston rock both past and present, including reunion performances by Permafrost and the Gravel Pit, with each night sharing a common theme. (e.g. Thursday night packs some girl power with an all female-fronted bill.)
The scene: “Not just dad-rock guys,” says Bouchard.
The tip: The already stacked lineups will be subject to special guest appearances and surprises. “Don’t expect the nights to stick to the schedule exactly — it’s rock and roll,” says Bouchard.
