Lindsay Lohan’s mother is facing an aggravated drunken driving charge in New York following a traffic stop on Long Island. State police say Dina Lohan, 50, was stopped on the Northern State Parkway in Nassau County at 11 p.m. Thursday after troopers clocked her driving a BMW at 77 mph in a 55-mph zone. She took a breath test that pegged her blood-alcohol level at 0.20 percent, police said. That’s more than twice New York’s legal limit of 0.08 percent. Lohan was brought to a state police barracks in Farmingdale, issued tickets for driving while intoxicated and speeding, and then released to a ‘‘sober third party,’’ state police said in a news release. She is due in court Sept. 24. The traffic stop happened about 25 miles east of New York City and about 9 miles from Lohan’s home in Merrick.
Da Vinci notes, sketches
Leonardo da Vinci’s early notes and sketches of human flight some 400 years before the airplane’s invention are making a rare visit to the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C. The museum will display da Vinci’s ‘‘Codex on the Flight of Birds’’ through Oct. 22. The notebook dates to between 1505 and 1506 when the famous Renaissance artist also painted his ‘‘Mona Lisa’’ masterpiece. Da Vinci studied birds to describe how humans could one day fly. The historic document is being shown near Orville and Wilbur Wright’s 1903 Flyer, the world’s first successful powered aircraft. Interactive stations allow visitors to flip through the codex pages. The Biblioteca Reale in Turin, Italy, is loaning the document to the Smithsonian.
Odom faces DUI count
Basketball player Lamar Odom has been charged with a misdemeanor count of driving under the influence, nearly two weeks after his Mercedes-Benz was pulled over on a Southern California freeway. The Los Angeles city attorney’s office said Friday that the charges stem from Odom’s Aug. 30 arrest in the San Fernando Valley. The husband of Khloe Kardashian was taken into custody after a sobriety test. The 33-year-old Odom could face six months in jail and a $1,000 fine if convicted. Arraignment is scheduled for Sept. 27. After spending the 2012 season with the Dallas Mavericks, Odom returned to the Clippers last year. He became a free agent at the end of the season.
Counseling for Zadora
A judge has ordered singer-actress Pia Zadora to complete alcohol and impulse control counseling. Zadora was arrested in May after police say she sprayed her teenage son with a hose in an attempt to get him to go to bed. The Las Vegas Sun reports that a Las Vegas judge on Thursday told Zadora that she’ll face 30 days in jail if she fails to seek help. Zadora was charged with domestic abuse and coercion after a disturbance that began with her attempt to hustle the 16-year-old boy to bed so she could get some rest. Police reports say the one-time blond bombshell turned a watering hose on her son and tried to rip the phone from his hands when he called 911. Zadora told police she thought he was calling the authorities to avoid his bedtime.
