The competition among the cable networks and the streamers just keeps getting hotter. Looks like Amazon is making a few big strides, with news that it has acquired “Homecoming,” starring Julia Roberts in her first regular TV series role.

The half-hour drama is from “Mr. Robot” creator Sam Esmail, and it has a two-season order. Based on a fictional podcast of the same name, it’s a psychological thriller about a caseworker at a secret government facility. The podcast voice cast included Catherine Keener, Oscar Isaac, David Schwimmer, Amy Sedaris, and David Cross. “Homecoming” podcast writers Eli Horowitz and Micah Bloomberg will also serve as writers on the series.

Amazon also recently grabbed another prestige project and gave it a two-season order. The untitled show is a Mafia drama from director David O. Russell, and it stars Robert De Niro and Julianne Moore.

By the way, this is the second TV project Roberts signed onto this summer. She’ll also star in an HBO limited series based on Maria Semple’s book “Today Will Be Different.”
