Jane Lynch may get a shot at a daytime talk show

Jane Lynch is in the early stages of putting together a syndicated daytime talk show. The actress, who won an Emmy for playing Sue Sylvester on “Glee,” is working on the project with Telepictures, the studio behind “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.”

Ah well, I suppose that’s a good thing. She has won two Emmys for her hosting work on “Hollywood Game Night,” and she hosted the Emmy Awards in 2011, so she has some experience being in charge of an unscripted show. The proposed talker, according to Deadline, would be a “feel-good variety show that would be tailored for Lynch, showcasing her comedic take/spin on everything from pop culture moments to real people with unique, uplifting stories.” It will be filmed with a live audience, and there will not be celebrity guests — probably a good thing, since daytime TV is infested with celebrity guests.

But, unlike DeGeneres, I prefer Lynch when she’s in character. She always made me laugh on “Party Down” and “Lovespring International,” and she has done a number of memorable movie turns, in Christopher Guest films such as “A Mighty Wind,” “Best in Show,” and “Mascots,” and in “The 40-Year-Old Virgin” and “Julie and Julia.”

That said, the actress has had some trouble getting footing on prime time since “Glee” left the air in 2015. Her sitcom “Angel From Hell” was quickly canceled by CBS, and her NBC pilot “Relatively Happy” did not get picked up. Perhaps this will work out better for her.

The show will most likely launch in the fall of 2018.
