Good news for those who’ve watched and enjoyed Netflix’s “Mindhunter,” the story of the first FBI studies in the 1970s on the psychology of serial killers. Netflix has announced that the series, whose executive producers include David Fincher and Charlize Theron, will be back for a second round.
I was a fan of the first season, as two agents — one innocent, one experienced — begin their series of interviews with imprisoned killers in order to try to find patterns in their motivations. “Our goal is to be preemptive,” one of them says about their study. As the cynical veteran, Holt McCallany is perfect; as the fresh newbie, Jonathan Groff is a little less natural. But the subject matter is consistently riveting, if you don’t mind contemplating evil, that is.Matthew Gilbert can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org. Follow him on Twitter @MatthewGilbert.
