Much has been written about Whitey Bulger in the past three decades, but in “Whitey: The Life of America’s Most Notorious Mob Boss’’ Dick Lehr and Gerard O’Neill (who already wrote about Bulger and his unholy alliance with the FBI in “Black Mass”) have put together a comprehensive life and times of the mobster, beginning with his 19th-century Irish ancestors to his present perch in the Plymouth County Correctional Facility awaiting trial.
In recounting this epic, horrific tale, the authors have mined a rich vein of sources that include Bulger’s federal prison file, interviews with Bulger associates, government documents released through Freedom of Information Act requests, court records, and more.

We know the movie actor Matt Damon and his role in the Southie movie the Departed. Who was the Jason Bourne character written about? Whitey Bulger is he the Jason Bourne character ? Bulger was first in federal custody at Atlanta Penitentiary (1956–59) for armed robbery and hijacking. In prison he was involved in the MK-ULTRA program, the goal of which was to research mind-control drugs for the Central Intelligence Agency, headed by CIA chemist Sidney Gottlieb. Highly trained assassin and bank robber Jason Bourne ( "Whitey" Bulger) is on the hunt for the FBI agents who stole his memory and true identity. With a new generation of skilled FBI operatives tracking his every move, Bourne AKA "Whitey" Bulger is in a nonstop race around the globe as he finally learns the truth behind his mysterious past. Ultimately his girl friend ends up actually being his handler and turns him in at the end . When Alcatraz was shut down in 1963, Bulger was sent to Leavenworth Prison in Kansas, where he volunteered to take LSD as part of an FBI-sponsored experiment called MK-Ultra. He was paroled in 1965 after serving nine years. How was Whitey Bulger able to be ahead of the federal and state authorities?Whitey's small volunteer unit at Atlanta was part of a CIA project to find out how people reacted to LSD, a program documented in a 1977 book titled "The Search for the Manchurian Candidate," which exposed medical abuses by the intelligence agency? This is how Whitey" Bulger became known as the Manchurian Candidate in which the movie the "The Bourne Identity" was written. Catherine Greig lived for years with Bulger but like in the movie the Bourne Identity was she really the girl friend reporting to FBI agents his every move? Was she the one they called to bring him in ?

I hope this book further exposes Billy Bulger's role in all of this. Billy and Whitey were both very smart and ambituous. Billy was very plugged in and knew what Whitey was up to but aided and abetted him through the years. Despite the mostly good work that Billy did as a politician it's tough to swallow that he's collecting a huge pension from the same state where his brother wreaked havoc. Both brothers seem to share a lot of the same personality traits, including not having a conscience.
Whitey Bulger a racist? I'm shocked, shocked! Scum of the earth.
He was no different than 90% of the Southie of his day, including a lot of Roman Collars. An ultra-sick son of a sick culture.
It's funny that nobody seems to pick up on the fact that Whitey had a free nose job while in prison. He probably "volunteered" for that too. He had an obvious hump high up on his nose originally. He now has a beautiful profile. All his life he has collected "freebies".
